Baby Shower: Meaning, Tips, and Ideas

Baby shower party

So, what is the meaning of a baby shower? Baby Shower is a charming celebration organised on the eve of childbirth. The term ‘baby shower’ literally means a shower of gifts for a baby, so the guests gather to shower a little one with pleasant and helpful presents – and to enjoy a great time together, of course.

Traditionally, the baby shower celebration is organised by future mom’s close friends – and, yes, this party is for girls only. Baby shower organisers invite expectant mother’s female friends and relatives. Mothers can join the celebration with infants. Nevertheless, there are no strict rules in the ideal baby shower party organisation, and everyone can host the celebration – from the mother-to-be herself to her family, friends, and even co-workers. Yes, and who said that only one baby shower is allowed? The main thing is that the baby shower’s primary goal is to support the future mom and make her truly happy – and to create precious memories.

A few know that this tradition has a long and eventful history. The baby shower in its present form has its roots in the years after World War II in the USA. Influenced by American culture, this celebration of new life has spread to Europe – and lately, to almost all parts of our incredible world. Today, hosting a pre-birth baby party is becoming more popular in Singapore, which is not surprising. It is an excellent way to support the mother-to-be, to charge her with positive emotions before the most important event in her life, and to spend an exciting and meaningful time with the nearest and dearest. By the way, positive emotions and some baby-themed inspiration are guaranteed for all guests of the baby shower party.

When Is the Best Time To Host The Baby Shower Party?

At what age is the baby shower party hosted? Usually, people celebrate the baby shower in the later stages of pregnancy – around 4 to 6 weeks before the baby’s arrival. It is important to choose a date close enough to that very day. However, do not wait until the last moment! Otherwise, you might have a surprise guest at your party. Moreover, the closer to childbirth, the harder it is for the future mom to stay energised and ready for partying. It will be a good idea to ask future parents first to choose the period that suits them the most. By the way, some parents choose to have the baby shower after the arrival of the main hero or heroine of the occasion.

As for the baby shower’s duration, it typically lasts from 3 to 4 hours. However, the party’s length is flexible. The most important thing is to ensure that future mom feels good and comfortable and avoid overtiring her.

Baby Shower Celebration Scenario

Any baby shower begins with greeting the party’s guests and enjoying nice talks. It would be great if someone would act as a party’s host and a photographer. Actually, there’s no need for a carefully thought-out scenario for the baby shower. After all, girls always have something to talk about, right?

Fun baby-themed stories are a must. Share your hilarious parenting moments (if you have a child), or remember something from your childhood. Please keep all unpleasant and scary moments about giving birth and parenting as far from the baby shower as possible.

When you’ve discussed everything (or rather, almost everything), move to giving gifts. Be sure to capture every moment, as these memories are indescribable. As for baby shower gift ideas, we will discuss this topic in more detail later.

Of course, no baby shower is full without delicious treats. Whether to choose light snacks and finger food or a sumptuous dinner menu – it is up to you. However, sweets are a must! Be sure to order a baby shower cake and cupcakes with baby-themed decorations at any of the bakeries and cafes in Singapore. The baby shower cake made by a party guest will leave indescribable impressions. By the way, you can opt for baby shower catering in Singapore – and save time and nerves for other activities.

To make the event even more exciting and memorable, prepare several baby shower games, like ‘Guess the Belly Size,’ ‘Decorating Bodysuits And Bibs,’ ‘Nappy Messages,’ ‘Guess The Baby Food,’ and others. Playing such games will help everyone relax, have fun, and even prepare for parenthood in some way.

Yes, don’t forget about baby shower decorations. From balloons, photos of cute babies, and tableware to photo booth props, floral arrangements, and cake decorations – be sure to use everything to turn your baby shower party venue into a cozy place with a heartwarming atmosphere and the happiness of maternity in every detail. You can buy everything you need or create baby shower decorations with your own hands. Either way, the process of preparation will be exciting.

If you want to save time and organise a totally fuss-free baby shower party (and if the budget allows, of course), you can choose from a great selection of baby party packages in Singapore. You can choose a baby shower party theme, venue, decorations, menu, and even add some thrilling activities, like sharing some special family moments with the help of a projector and screen, singing karaoke for fun, and others.

Well, now is the time to figure out what an ideal place to organise the baby shower party is.

Where to Host the Baby Shower Party in Singapore?

baby shower celebration photo zone

You can organise the baby shower party in the comfort of your home in a nice setting. If it is a surprise party, opt for a quiet café or a cozy party venue. Choose the baby shower’s theme, decide on the colour palette, and prepare cute baby shower decorations, like balloons, photos of babies, garlands of storks, flowers, and other nice maternity-related stuff. By the way, you can make a throne for the mom-to-be. Take a chair, wrap it in a white cloth, and add a big tulle bow on the back of the chair – and voila! A beautiful throne for our beautiful heroine of the occasion is ready.

Are you looking for a more hassle-free option for the baby shower celebration organisation? There are many inviting baby shower venues in Singapore to choose from, where every detail of your special celebration has already been carefully thought out to make this day truly unforgettable. Baby Shower: Ideas for Baby Shower Gifts

baby shower gift ideas

As we’ve already figured out, the baby shower is literally a shower of gifts for a baby, so choosing a present to give the mom-to-be during this precious celebration is an important part of preparations for the party. What to give for the baby shower? This is probably the most frequent question regarding the baby shower tradition.

You can opt for practical, cute, and fun gifts. Typically, guests aim to give the future mother nice gifts that can make her life easier. Let’s check out several baby shower ideas for gifts.

Baby Shower Ang Bao

The practice of giving Ang Bao – red envelopes – filled with money, carries deep cultural symbolism of luck and blessings. So, this gift is much more than just money. Besides, it is an excellent option if you can’t decide which present to choose – we suppose the mother-to-be knows for sure where to put the money. How much Ang Bao to give for the baby shower? Well, many factors influence this decision, including traditions, personal relationships, financial capabilities, and contemporary trends. Actually, the amount of money in the envelope doesn’t matter. Your sincere wishes and love – that is what really matters.

Baby Clothing for Baby Shower

Bodysuits and jumpsuits, rompers and diaper shirts, baby socks and tiny shoes – is there anything cuter than baby clothing? Moreover, the choice is so wide and lovely. However, consider buying larger sizes because babies grow out of newborn sizes so quickly.

Baby Care Products for Baby Shower

Oils, creams, baby shampoo, and other baby care products are all good ideas for gifts for the baby shower. However, be sure to check with the parents-to-be preferences before buying this or that product since they could form their opinion already. Besides, some parents avoid using certain products for various reasons. Instead, you can choose from helpful care accessories, like baby nail scissors, a bath thermometer, a nursing pillow, a bottlebrush for cleaning milk bottles, and others.

Bedding for Baby Shower

You can find many nice bedding sets and blankets on the market, but we highly recommend that you buy them for toddler age since newborns need only a fitted bottom sheet (no pillows, blankets, etc.) in order to reduce the risks of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and suffocation.

Diapers for Baby Shower

Even though this gift is not quite an original one, it is the most practical variant that is undoubtedly on top of the baby shower wish list. Gift several different sizes – and your baby shower present will be helpful for several months. To add some originality, you can make a diaper cake and adorn it with baby socks, rubber duckies, and other adorable items.

Baby Shower Hampers

If you have many ideas and can’t decide which one to choose, consider gifting a baby shower hamper. You can take a box and a basket and fill it with everything you wish or order ready-made sets with everyday essentials and nice surprises.

From diapers, toys, and comforters to mobiles, playmats, and floor seats – the selection of cute and helpful gifts for the baby shower is wide and diverse, and you will definitely find something to give. Still can’t make the decision? Don’t worry! You can simply ask for advice from future parents – their list of parenting essentials is literally endless.

So, what to buy for the baby shower? We suppose you now know an ideal option for this momentous event.

Other Lovely Childbirth-Dedicated Celebrations

The period of expectation of the baby, as well as the time after birth, is full of unique happenings, so one wants to capture every detail and every precious moment of it. Along with the baby shower, there are many other lovely childbirth-dedicated celebrations and traditions – to commemorate new life, gather with all nearest and dearest, and create family memories. Let’s check out some of them.

Gender Reveal Party

Another cute and important reason to meet with your family and friends – a gender reveal party – is an occasion when parents-to-be and their guests find out an answer to the most intriguing question: a girl or a boy. Couples who want to host a baby’s gender party have an ultrasound around 18 or 20 weeks when it is already possible to determine the baby’s gender. Typically, the gender is kept secret from future mom and dad. Parents choose a time, date, and theme – and let the party begin!

It is a more young tradition that originated in the USA during the late 2000s. At this party, guests play various games, join ‘Team Pink’ or ‘Team Blue,’ try to guess the baby’s sex in various fun ways, and enjoy delicious treats. Themed cakes and cupcakes are a must for every gender reveal party in Singapore.

By the way, sometimes, the gender reveal party is combined with the baby shower.

Baby Full Month Celebration

Baby Full Month is usually celebrated in Asia to commemorate the baby’s ‘fool moon’ when the little one turns 1 month old. This day is also important for a mother as it marks the end of her month-long confinement.

Parents gather their loved ones and share this happy moment with them. Traditionally, red eggs and ang ku kuehs are gifted to all guests. You can choose from a great variety of lovely baby full month gift boxes in Singapore (with red eggs, ang ku kueh, cupcakes, and other delights) and even order baby full month catering – to organise an ideal celebration with no nerves and no fuss.

Baby 100 Days Celebration

Just like the name of this celebration states, it is another important milestone in the life of a baby and parents that marks the first 100 days of the little one’s life – the first of many firsts. Families meet at home or in a cozy venue to celebrate with gifts and treats and wish the baby and the parents health and happiness. The party place is decorated with balloons, photos, etc. Guests play fun games, enjoy food, and take many photos and videos. Parents gift red eggs to their nearest and dearest – as a symbol of fertility and new life. And, yes, the baby 100 days celebration is impossible without a themed cake, smiles, and precious memories.

Of course, this is just a part of all charming baby-dedicated celebrations and traditions. By the way, why don’t you create your own family tradition?

We hope BusyKidd’s ultimate guide to this beautiful celebration is helpful and that you now know what to choose as baby shower decorations to adorn your party venue and have some nice baby shower gift ideas.

As Christmas and New Year are on the threshold, Singapore’s air fills with some magic. Its streets become lit up with mesmerizing lights and adorned with incredible decorations – and numerous Christmas-themed attractions and things to do make everyone believe in a fairytale. Just like the whole of The Lion City, beloved Gardens by the Bay has also turned into a winter wonderland and has prepared many festive surprises for all its friends. And this year, there is something very special that cannot but impress both young and young-hearted. For the first time ever, all Singaporeans and visitors to the city are invited to join the enchanted Gardens by the Bay Christmas Train Show, and the BusyKidd team can’t wait to share more details on this event with you!

Video Credit: Gardens By The Bay via You Tube

Gardens by the Bay, in collaboration with the Embassy of the United States in Singapore, decided to bring a century-old American Christmas tradition to the very heart of Flower Dome – to raise the level of festive excitement even higher, let kids plunge into the Christmas fairytale, and help adults become kids again (at least for a moment). Just imagine more than 100 meters of complex railroads, loops, and overhead trails – and tiny model trains zooming all around. That already sounds impressive, right? Now add amazing miniature versions of iconic American landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty, Grand Central Terminal, and the Empire State Building to this magical landscape. Yes, and myriads of beautiful festive flowers everywhere, including 16 varieties of Poinsettias, Norway Spruce, Holly, Silver Ragwort, and many others. Isn’t that a Christmas dreamland?

Reunion Dinner on Chinese New Year 2025 Eve

Chinese New Year family dinner

The highlight of Chinese New Year 2025 lies in the Reunion Dinner held on Chinese New Year’s Eve. Families gather around a table with traditional Chinese New Year dishes that stand for good fortune, success, and longevity. From steamed fish to dumplings, each dish carries its special meaning. Reunion Dinner on CNY 2025 Eve fosters a sense of togetherness and allows family members to gather, have a precious time in a heartwarming atmosphere, and share blessings for the upcoming year.

Families can choose from various options for their CNY 2025 Eve reunion dinner. Some may decide on a traditional variant by preparing the Chinese New Year food with their own hands, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere in their homes. This is exactly what the majority of Chinese families decide on. They gather at a family member’s home instead of a restaurant since it is the most important meal for Chinese families – especially for families with relatives living far away from home.

Alternatively, many families prefer the convenience of ordering takeaway or delivery of Chinese New Year meals. This offers them to enjoy the iconic CNY 2025 flavours without the hassle of cooking. It seems like an ideal balance between celebrating Chinese New Year 2025 traditions and managing busy schedules, doesn’t it? If you want to change scenery, take a break from daily duties, and enjoy a fuss-free CNY 2025 Eve, visiting a restaurant would be a great idea.
