Benefits Of Running

We suppose almost everyone has avid runners among their relatives or friends. They start each day with running. They have special running clothes and gear you’ve never heard about before. They gather in groups of like-minded people – and run together, organise various dedicated events, and even travel as a big running family (well, of course, they never cease running – even while exploring the world). Do you have such a person in your life? And if you ask anything about their passion – get ready to listen to their stories for hours and hours. Especially if you ask them about the benefits of running.

Well, to be honest, running can do miracles – and not just with your body, but also with your soul and mind. While the list of benefits of running is truly endless, let’s check the most important ones among them!

Benefits of running:

  • Running strengthens your body (your heart, legs, knees, back, and literally all other parts of your body feel a positive effect of running)
  • Running reduces the risk of many illnesses and helps you live longer (there are plenty of studies and scientific proof of this)
  • Running ensures better sleep
  • Running improves your memory and boosts your brainpower in general
  • Running helps reduce the level of stress and improves your mood
  • Running helps you develop your self-organisation, determination, confidence, and many other essential social skills and character traits
  • Running provides you some ‘me time’ and an opportunity to enjoy nature, inspiring city views, people all around, etc.
  • Running costs almost nothing

And this is just the beginning of the benefits of running. It helps you find new friends, broaden your horizons, and enjoy every moment.

In the meantime, running with your whole family including kids is a very special type of family-friendly activity. Easy to learn, inexpensive, and great for every age and place. You can organise your own running competitions and fun running games, which results in strengthening your family bonds and creating many precious memories. Running boosts kids’ self-esteem and confidence, teaches them to work as a team and to achieve their personal goals, and improves their health – both physical and mental. And, of course, running can be so fun!

We suppose, this list of benefits of running is compelling enough – so, it’s time to prepare your running shoes! By the way, what else do we need to enjoy running to the fullest and get absolutely ready to take part in the upcoming marathon in Singapore?

How To Prepare For Running Marathon In Singapore

First of all, proper clothes, shoes, and equipment are essential. Choose the right running shoes, a reliable sports bra, running shorts, leggings, tanks, running socks, etc. Consider buying special vests and phone holders, wireless earbuds, reflective gear, lights, and other items that will ensure your safe and pleasant running.

Set a running plan – and try to follow it to achieve your goals. Begin with a mix of running and walking. Gradually increase your mileage and faster intervals. Be patient with yourself and always listen to your body.

Combine your running with other types of exercise. Be sure to warm up and stretch. Take regular breaks – your body deserves a proper rest. A healthy and balanced diet is also a must (but never run right after eating). You should drink a lot of water. Before, during, and after your running – always!

If there are health problems, it’s better to consult your doctor. And remember – it’s all about health and for health!

Well, it seems you are ready to take part in one of the thrilling marathons in Singapore – or join all of them! It’s time to check the list of upcoming marathons in Singapore 2025!

Upcoming Marathons In Singapore

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon

Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, also known as Singapore Marathon, is one of the most known marathons in the world – and one of the most anticipated events in The Little Red Dot. Traditionally, it takes place on the first Sunday of December each year – so, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2024 was held from 29 November to 1 December, while SCSM 2025 is scheduled for 5 – 7 December 2025.

The Singapore Marathon is an international marathon race. Along with a thrilling competition, it brings lots of excitement and family-friendly activities to The Lion City. By the way, the first competitive marathon in Singapore took place in December 1982. In 2002, the most popular marathon in Singapore was rebranded as the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon – as a result of a sponsorship deal with the Standard Chartered Bank Singapore (SCB Singapore). Today, this marathon in Singapore sponsored by SCB SG boasts fame as one of the biggest marathon events on Earth.

How hard is the Singapore Marathon? Well, SCB’s marathon in Singapore is a real test of endurance. Singapore Marathon covers a distance of 42.195km and there is a cut-off time. Yes, it requires a certain level of training, willpower, and strength. However, don’t worry since there are easier challenges of the Singapore Marathon that you can join – and we are going to get acquainted with them right now!

Singapore Marathon

So, why is a full marathon 42km? The answer lies in Ancient Greece, where in 490 B.C., an Athenian runner named Pheidippides (a hemerodrome, an ancient Greek courier who would run all day), ran from the little town of Marathon to Athens in order to announce the Greek victory over the invading Persian army. Can you guess the approximate distance he covered? Yes, you are right! That’s why the running races are called marathons and have a distance of 42km.

What is the cut off time for the Singapore Marathon? The cut off time for the 42.195-kilometer race of the Singapore Marathon is 7 hours and 30 minutes. All participants who take longer are considered disqualified. By the way, who won the Singapore Marathon in 2024? In 2024, Singapore’s top long-distance runner, Soh Rui Yong, won his fifth consecutive Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon with breathtaking race results: the athlete covered the distance in a time of 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 5 seconds.

Singapore Marathon 2025 will take place on 7 December – for runners 18 years old and above. All details on start and finish venues, entry fees, etc. are due to be announced soon.
