SG Child Support Package: What Parents Need to Know

Share:

If you’re raising a child in Singapore, here’s the headline: from April 2027, every Singapore citizen child aged 1 to 16 will receive S$2,000 in Child Credits every year. Over 16 years, that adds up to as much as $32,000 per child.

The money comes through the new SG Child Support Package, announced at the 2026 National Day Rally. There’s one thing to sort out before the first payout, and it takes about five minutes: setting up your child’s PayNow account. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the SG Child Support Package?

The SG Child Support Package will replace the Baby Bonus Scheme and the Large Families Scheme. Its aim is to give families stronger, longer-lasting financial support, from birth through the growing years, and to help with the cost of higher education.

One big change: every Singapore citizen child gets the same level of support, regardless of birth order. A first child receives the same benefits as a third.

The $2,000 Child Credits

The Child Credits are the part most families will notice first.

  • Amount: $2,000 per child, every year
  • Who gets it: Singapore citizen children turning 1 to 16 from 2026 onwards
  • First payout: April 2027
  • Later payouts: Made on your child’s birthday
  • Total: Up to $32,000 from ages 1 to 16

These are paid out as cash into a bank account, so you don’t need to worry about redeeming vouchers or finding merchants that accept them.

Action needed: set up your child’s PayNow account

The payouts will be sent to the bank account linked to your child’s PayNow ID, which is their NRIC or birth certificate number. The Government recommends setting this up before 1 April 2027 so you receive the money promptly.

What you need first: a bank account that is either in your child’s name or a joint account with a parent, such as a Child Savings Account.

How to register:

  1. Log in to your bank’s internet banking site or mobile app.
  2. Go to the PayNow registration screen and link the bank account to your child’s NRIC or birth certificate number.
  3. Complete the SMS OTP verification if prompted.
  4. Check the PayNow Profile in your banking app to confirm it’s set up.

One important warning: do not link your child’s PayNow ID to a Child Development Account (CDA). The CDA is a ring-fenced account for approved expenses such as education and healthcare at approved institutions, and its funds can’t be withdrawn in cash.

Do I need to apply?

For most families, no.

  • Already in the Baby Bonus Scheme? Your child will be moved to the new package automatically from April 2027.
  • Child born between 2009 and 2013 and no longer in the Baby Bonus Scheme? Also automatic.
  • Child not yet enrolled in the Baby Bonus Scheme? Enrol them through birth registration on LifeSG, or enrol them separately if the birth is already registered, the child is a new citizen, or was adopted. They will then transition to the package in April 2027.
  • Baby born on or after 1 April 2027? Enrol your child in the package as part of birth registration on LifeSG.

More than just the Child Credits

The package also includes other benefits, depending on when your child was born.

  • Baby Gift: Children born on or after 1 April 2027 receive $10,000 in cash, paid in two tranches within 12 months of birth. Children who currently receive the Baby Bonus Cash Gift will keep receiving it until 31 March 2027, with a top-up by 30 April 2027 to bring the total up to $10,000, if applicable.
  • CDA First Step Grant: Children born on or after 1 April 2027 get a one-off $5,000 deposited into their CDA once it’s opened.
  • CDA co-matching: Dollar-for-dollar matching up to a $5,000 cap for children born on or after 1 April 2027.
  • Longer CDA: For children born on or after 1 January 2015, the CDA stays open until the end of the year the child turns 16. Unused funds then move to the Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA).
  • PSEA top-up: A one-off $10,000 for children turning 17 from 2026 onwards, paid in June of the year they turn 17. Children turning 17 in 2026 will receive it in June 2027.
