SAFRA National Service Association

SAFRA National Service Association is Singapore’s prominent, respected, and loved organisation with a network of clubs and facilities aimed at providing National Servicemen (NSmen) from Singapore Armed Forces and their families with social, recreational, educational, sports, and other amenities.

It all started in 1972, when the then Defence Minister of Singapore, Dr Goh Keng Swee, launched the ‘Singapore Armed Forces Reservist Association’. The organisation’s mission is to build camaraderie and boost morale among NSmen. For over 50 years, it has fostered a sense of togetherness and provided support to brave people to thank and reward those who have dedicated their lives to service to the nation.

To fulfill this mission, the association has built a network of clubs and other facilities. It provides a range of activities and services, constantly organises various events, ensures membership perks, etc. All of the above aims to cover all the needs of the organisation’s members and enhance their social well-being.

As of today, the organisation has 8 clubs: at Choa Chu Kang, Jurong, Punggol, Mount Faber, Toa Payoh, Yishun, @29 Carpenter Street, and Tampines. By the way, the last one, SAFRA Tampines, our hero of today’s article, is the organisation’s oldest clubhouse.

Besides, one more clubhouse, SAFRA Bayshore, is planned to open its doors in 2030. Great news! It will be the organisation’s largest club. With a gross floor area of at least 30,000 square metres, this club is intended to be as large as about four soccer fields! Can you imagine the scale? That is also double the size of SAFRA Tampines. So, there is some sad news in this upcoming grand opening as well. It is expected that the newest lifestyle hub will replace the organisation’s oldest one. Yes, there are plans to close SAFRA Tampines. But this will happen in the future, in several years. In the meantime, our well-loved club continues to carry out its important mission and bring even more impressions and emotions into the lives of NSmen and their families.

Each of the organisation’s clubhouses is designed and planned to provide a combination of activities and services for education, enrichment, recreation, socialisation, and carefree and joyful leisure. All clubs are totally family-friendly and offer an exciting range of things to do for families with kids. There is also a choice of dining venues for every taste in all hubs. All of the above make SAFRA’s social and recreational clubs an ideal one-stop destination for an exciting, eventful, and meaningful day with your nearest and dearest.

Along with inviting clubhouses, the organisation also offers various activities, exciting events, exclusive staycations in its chalets and bungalows, as well as multiple perks for the organisation’s members. As for the membership…

SAFRA Membership

SAFRA Membership provides Singapore Armed Forces personnel and their families with access to the organisation’s clubs and other facilities, as well as multiple exclusive benefits. Great deals and savings at various merchant outlets islandwide, access to exclusive events, tailored support services – and this is just the beginning of all the perks available for members. By the way, exclusive events include an impressive range of happenings and activities annually, such as family-friendly days, workshops, concerts, performances, tournaments, fairs, and many others.

So, let us move on to SAFRA Tampines, the organisation’s most experienced clubhouse!

SAFRA Tampines

SAFRA Tampines was built in 1988 and is the organisation’s oldest – and most experienced – clubhouse. However, its age doesn’t mean it is the oldest club in terms of facilities, amenities, etc. The clubhouse has undergone a significant refurbishment in 2019, which has resulted in a new look and enhanced facilities of this much-loved lifestyle and recreational destination.

As it is clear from the title, Tampines SAFRA is nestled in the very heart of Tampines. It is a premium recreation centre that offers a wide range of activities for both relaxation and active pastime. SAFRA Tampines bowling, SAFRA Tampines swimming pool, SAFRA Tampines gym, Clique Gaming, Lagoon Snooker Centre – the list of facilities for fun and meaningful time is impressive. Food connoisseurs won’t be disappointed either, since the selection of SAFRA Tampines food options will satisfy everyone’s cravings. Lovely cafes for aromatic coffee, sweet desserts, and nice talks. Finger-licking authentic pizza in a lively Italian pizzeria. The most delicious tze char dishes in a local family-run Chinese eatery with the most heart-warming ambiance. Well, no one will be left hungry and sad!

Besides, the clubhouse offers a choice of educational and enriching classes, sports classes, workshops, and other engaging activities for both young and young-hearted.
