Exploring Hawker Culture

“Into the Hawkerverse” showcases various facets of hawker culture, an integral part of Singaporean life. The exhibition spans from historical street hawkers to today’s celebrated hawker heroes. Kids will learn about street vendors, popular hawker dishes, and the design of hawker centers.

Shadow Puppet Theatre

Kids can control colored visuals at the shadow puppet theatre, depicting scenes of hawkers from the past and present. The performance includes food types, stalls, seating, and even rats!

Object Cabinet

Drinks Pushcart

Tok Tok Mee Stall

Experience the Tok Tok Mee Stall with its nostalgic tunes. Kids can tap along with a bamboo stick and dress up as hawkers using the wardrobe near the exit.

Chendol Stall

Kids can explore a chendol stall, sniff ingredients, and learn about the tools used to create this popular dessert. Note: durian isn’t for sale!

Tools of the Trade

Kids can mount a platform to explore the tools of the hawker trade and understand the importance of cleanliness in food preparation.

Cook Up a Storm

Interactive exhibits allow kids to pretend they are cooking delicious hawker food. At Coleman Street Cooked Food, children can input orders on a touchscreen, and the “hawker” prepares various dishes like Chilli Crab and Oyster Omelette.

Plating Your Own Hawker Dish

Kids can piece together realistic platters of hawker dishes. The mouthwatering array of dishes is sure to impress!

Da Bao Corner

For a quieter space, children can visit the enclosed Da Bao Corner to relax with sensory toys and learn about preparing takeaways.

Weighing Scale

A see-saw weighing scale illustrates the amount of food wasted by each person annually and per household monthly.

Hawker Master Action Challenge

Kids can take on the Hawker Master Action Challenge, either solo or in a duel, to test their hawker skills, including making teh tarik.

Building Your Own Hawker Stall

Children can create their own hawker stalls and be inspired by a LEGO model of a hawker center to design their miniature versions.

A Library of Hawker Dishes

Uncover the stories and history behind various hawker dishes at A Library of Hawker Dishes. Detailed scenes of hawkers and the tools they use to craft unique food and drinks are on display.

Other Interactive Sections

The exhibition includes sections on the latest hawker machinery, new hawker center designs, a charades corner for guessing hawker dishes, and more.

Play Pot

For children under four, Play Pot offers a dedicated playspace where they can pretend to play masak masak or dive into a mee goreng pool.

Ticket price

Free admission with Pink or Blue NRIC is required for verification for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.

  • Family Package (2 adults & 2 children): $40
  • Children 12 months and below: Free (with a minimum purchase of 1 child and 1 adult ticket per booking)

Limited walk-in tickets are available on-site. Pre-booking on the CMSG website is recommended, especially during peak periods like March, June, September, and year-end school holidays. Tickets can be booked up to 30 days in advance.

Please arrive on time to enjoy the full experience, as no extensions will be given for late arrivals. Adult visitors are allowed only when accompanied by children.
